Power Platform 2023 Release Wave 1: What’s new?
The Microsoft Power Platform is a comprehensive suite of tools that enables users and organisations to transform their businesses through data analytics, automation and actionability. The suite consists of four core products: Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate and Power Virtual Agents. The current release wave, which runs from April 2023 to September 2023, promises hundreds of new features for the suite’s applications, including Microsoft Dataverse, Power Platform capabilities for governance and administration, professional development, ISV experiences and data integration.
Let’s dive in and find out what awaits us.
Power BI
One highlight is the improvement of the creation experience in Power BI. Microsoft brings more parity to the web platform and adds the Power Query chart view to Power BI. Teams also benefit from meeting and multitasking improvements that help users work with data wherever they are.
Power Apps
Power Apps places a strong emphasis on minimising risk for organisations by implementing advanced governance features, simplifying onboarding processes and leveraging low-code capabilities in a scalable and manageable way. This approach enables developers of all skill levels to increase their productivity with modern app creation, data and logic management experiences. In addition, users benefit from improved modernisation of web and mobile experiences to ensure that app usage is both modern and fast.
Power Automate
Power Automate introduces new features to simplify the creation of new workflows by describing them in natural language. This new feature saves developers a lot of time as they can now describe their workflows in simple language without having to rely on technical expertise. These improvements also include the introduction of work queues, where automatable tasks can be displayed and managed simultaneously, and an easier connection to a computer for desktop workflows – eliminating the need for additional installations and password management.
Power Virtual Agents
In addition to these new features, Power Virtual Agents offers a new unified authoring interface that is Microsoft’s only conversational AI studio for bot building. The enhanced authoring interface will be widely available in this release wave.
Microsoft’s Power Platform release plan for Release Wave 1 of 2023 is a significant development for organisations looking to improve productivity and efficiency. With new capabilities in the Power Platform applications, governance and administration, professional development, ISV experiences and data integration, organisations can leverage low-code and no-code tools and advanced capabilities to build and scale applications that meet their specific needs.
